Filipinos take to the global stage with feats of creative and athletic prowess among so many other things. Read on to see what stoked our collective sense of Pinoy Pride in 2024.

Filipinos are known for our deep sense of Pinoy pride– that warm, collective joy we feel whenever a fellow kababayan shines on the world stage. Whether it’s a gold medal, a viral talent show performance, or even a small act of heroism during tough times, we cheer like family. But in a year filled with ups and downs, we were curious: What made us feel proud to be Filipino in 2024?

For many, the answer was clear– sports victories took the spotlight. Up to 40% of Filipinos said they felt a surge of pride watching Filipino athletes succeed internationally, with a particular highlight being Carlos Yulo’s stellar performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics. His grace, strength, and discipline on the world stage captured hearts and reminded us of the world-class talent we have right here at home.

Other moments also sparked pride, though in smaller numbers. Talent competitions and beauty pageants, like Sofronio Vasquez’s standout run on The Voice U.S., brought a smile to 2% of respondents, showing how cultural representation still matters and excites. Similarly, another 2% pointed to infrastructure improvements– roads, bridges, and buildings going up– symbols of progress under government initiatives.

A further 2% cited pride in political leadership, particularly past efforts from the Duterte administration like free education and the controversial anti-drug campaign, while another 2% mentioned national defense and justice efforts, such as the protection of the West Philippine Sea and the perceived impact of internal security programs.

Interestingly, some drew pride from personal victories or moments of solidarity. 1% mentioned achieving their own goals, while others found inspiration in Filipinos helping each other through calamities, highlighting the bayanihan spirit that still thrives today.

However, not everyone had something specific in mind. 11% said they couldn’t recall any particular moment, while 38% admitted they couldn’t really think of anything to be proud of this year– perhaps reflecting the challenges many still face or a growing sense of disconnection from national achievements.

Still, the message is clear: Filipino pride is strongest when we come together to celebrate excellence, resilience, and community spirit. Even a single victory, like Carlos Yulo’s, can lift an entire nation’s heart.
